He was called Doc because he was the oldest one of the group at 28 years old.
Jack under the wing of the B-24 in Florida. Florida was the staging area for the trip overseas that went to South America and then across to Africa and eventually Italy. Their B-24 was new but was taken from them when they arrived in Italy according do jack's memoirs.
